Amazon.com Product Description The Fiskars super splitting axe splits large and thick blocks of wood with ease. The high-quality carbon steel blade has a PTFE coating, which reduces friction and helps facilitate the removal of the blade from wood. The 4-1/2-pound axe is smartly designed and easy to use. The 28-inch handle consists of a sturdy glass fiber-reinforced polyamide and is molded around the head to prevent loosening and separation. This ax is much lighter than ones with wooden handles and less likely to break at the neck. You can use the face of the ax as a sledge with Fiskars's splitting wedge for large blocks of wood. The ax comes complete with a plastic sheath for carrying and safe storage and includes a lifetime warranty.

It is the Real Deal! August 31, 2010 eknal (New Hampshire) I bought an axe at my local hardware store, and it would stick in the wood as I tried splitting it, and it was SUCH a pain to get it out. Yeah, it was dull. I wanted something better, and I wanted a splitting axe.
I searched amazon, and saw that this Fiskars axe had a 5 star rating, which is always attractive. I read the reviews, and was VERY skeptical. I just could not believe the axe was really that good... So I went to youtube, and sure enough there was a video of a guy splitting with this axe. He was splitting like butter, I could not believe my eyes. I placed my order and waited patiently.
I got it, and WoW!!!
I can't believe how well this axe splits wood... it has totally made splitting wood fun, because I can do so much more than the crappy axe I had before.
I've never been more sure of anything that this axe, and I would recommend it for everyone!
Hands down the best splitting axe I have used August 30, 2010 choppinwood This axe is a great design and splits wood with ease. I am splitting big rounds of Lodgepole pine. The blade is sharp and I have been told that spliting frozen wood in the winter can chip the edge (we will see). The handle is not as forgiving as a wood handle but it should last a long time. Overall this is a great wood splitting axe whether you are spliting wood for heat or just for the camp fire.
Excellent axe August 27, 2010 Neahga Leonard (USA) I have been splitting wood for most of my life. This axe is one of the best I have used. As long as you pay attention, as you always should, the handle length is just fine.
The steel of the blade takes a great edge for chopping and limbing, but is soft. This makes it tougher, but you have to take more care than usual to only strike wood with the edge. The blade design is based on a concave shape, staying slender near the edge for chopping, and flaring wide further back to help give that extra pop for splitting. I have had no problems with both dry and green oak, maple, cherry, or hickory. I've used it to split long rails, rounds for firewood, for felling trees (trees up to 6 inches in diameter usually took only 2 swings), woody shrub clearing, and for cleaning limbs off of of felled trees.
The handle is extremely tough and there is a lifetime guarantee on the product.
For an axe, you can't do much better than this one.
Great August 13, 2010 The Amputator 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Great for limb removal and decapitation. Axe swings wonderfully in hand and is sharp enough to leave nice clean cuts. High recommend to those who require a quick and clean axe for their job to get done.
Super Splitter! August 11, 2010 Mjölnir (Salt Lake City, UT) This Fiskars super splitting axe is lighter and shorter than most other splitting axes out there, but it splits twice as well as they do. Neither I nor my 6'5" brother find the 28" handle to be too short -- it feels good. The handle really feels unbreakable -- a couple heavy over-swings left no trace on the handle, and didn't sting my hands like other fiberglass splitters I've used.
It split a 20-inch diameter spruce log (and 20+ inches long, and not well-seasoned) in just a few swings, and I'm not much more than an amateur. It splits logs less than 15 inches in diameter in one to three swings, a few more if there's a big knot or two to go through. I had a similar experience with aspen.
While I had more success with this splitting axe than others trying to split cottonwood, in general I still needed a wedge and sledge. The twisted growing pattern of cottonwood and the spongy, fibrous nature of the grain stood up even to the Fiskars Super Splitter. (The cottonwood we have seldom splits -- just tears slowly as the wedge is driven in. It's terrible.)
I've never had to split anything worse than cottonwood, and judging by how this splitting axe handled spruce and aspen, I'd wager it'll be amazing with most woods commonly used for burning. Not only is Fiskars a Finnish company, but the packaging boasts: "Made in Finland." I guess a country where 20% of people make there living in the forest industry (Wiki: Economy of Finland) ought to produce some pretty sweet axes! It is GUARANTEED for life that the handle will not break and the head will never loosen or separate!
One of my brothers doesn't really like this axe, and he prefers his 8 pound 36-inch handled maul, saying, "I don't like the Fiskars because I feel like I'm not swinging anything with it." I kind of think that's the point. But if you're like that, then pass on this axe. Otherwise, you'll love it!!
