Amazon.com Product Description The Fiskars super splitting axe splits large and thick blocks of wood with ease. The high-quality carbon steel blade has a PTFE coating, which reduces friction and helps facilitate the removal of the blade from wood. The 4-1/2-pound axe is smartly designed and easy to use. The 28-inch handle consists of a sturdy glass fiber-reinforced polyamide and is molded around the head to prevent loosening and separation. This ax is much lighter than ones with wooden handles and less likely to break at the neck. You can use the face of the ax as a sledge with Fiskars's splitting wedge for large blocks of wood. The ax comes complete with a plastic sheath for carrying and safe storage and includes a lifetime warranty.

Solid March 10, 2010 James Orleman (Canton, Mich.) Greta tool. Solid and well balanced. One swing and straight through the log. The length is great for one handed splitting. If you are going to use two hands you will need a longer axe.
Wood stands no chance! March 2, 2010 M. Lees (Tacoma, WA) If you enjoy getting a good work out from splitting rounds, this isn't the axe for you. I got this in the mail a few hours ago, opened it up and took it outside to split some wood. It was a dream, so I think I'll stick to the big yellow handled 6 and a half pound splitter that gets stuck every other swing, and leave this one for the old man.
AMAZING!!!!!!!!!! February 23, 2010 P. C (The Great Smokey Mountains) The single best item I ever purchased online. I was hopeful after reading the reviews, but it still blew me away. This Axe was born to split, it never gets stuck and rarely takes a 2nd swing to finish the job. You'll also quickly learn that you don't have to put all you've got into the swing as the splitter does most of the work! I can see what people say about the handle length feeling different than a conventional length axe handle and I'm only 5'4" but it doesn't impede its abilities and becomes comfortable to swing very quickly. Fiskars has a new FAN and I'm picking up their hatchet for camping soon.
The Little Punisher! February 20, 2010 Muckus (WI) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
best little maul that I have ever used.
I have two other mauls a 6 lbs. and a 8 lbs. with fiber glass handles I was a hardcore 8 pound axe swinging john henry out in the woods so i thought this little Fiskars 4 1/2 pounder with an itty bitty handle made me doubtful it could handle the big stuff at first. Little did I know it chops wood like a possessed wood chuck. Some reviewers said the handle was too short thats not the case I'm 6'2 and I think its more ideal than the longer handled mauls being that it's faster, lighter and more maneuverable in tight areas and you don't feel worn out after a long day in the woods. In my opinion this little Fiskars works equal or better than the heavier mauls without having to swing all that extra weight. I used it on a 15" diameter weeping willow that the Road Crew was good enough to oblige us with after all the blood, sweat and tears of planting and trimming this little dandy year after year until they had to widen the road all in the name of progress that was the end of our beloved willow as we knew it, it may warm our hearts one last time. Also used it on some big 24" diameter oak that had just died of oak wilt the Fiskars kept going where the other mauls left off. if you can't see over your neck i don't recommend this axe to you. but if you're like the rest of us you'll find it's the best maul you've ever used. the Fiskars maul has an extremely sharp machined head compared to most other mauls but yet it doesn't get stuck in the wood. this is coming from some good ol' boys that have to cut 10-15 full cords to keep warm through the winter. my always skeptical bro with impeccable taste came around after using said maul and finally admitted that it was a superior tool to his old reliable 6 pounder. I also recommend the Fiskars axe/knife sharpener keeps your mauls & knives nice and sharp. did i forget to mention they all come with a life time warrantee.
Well worth it. February 16, 2010 Michael S. Ewing I am impressed with how well this works. I've used a standard splitting maul for years and after trying this the first time I'm sold. If you have large logs to split this is the way to go. If on the other hand you Are splitting logs that are less than 12-14" the fiskar splitting axe is surprisingly good.
