Best for the price March 9, 2010 Jerry Phipps I only Bonsai occassionally, maintaining or creating 1 or 2 a year. This set is perfect for me.
Perfect for beginners January 3, 2010 Sinjin (Houston, TX USA) I started this hobby last year and didn't want to spend $200+ on a nice set of tools until I had more experience (and some success!). These tools are inexpensive and work great. I am careful to clean them and give them a touch of oil after every use, and so far no rust problems. I may not upgrade for a long time.
Good tools! December 31, 2009 J. Haggard (Nashville, TN) I am no bonsai expert. In fact I got my first tree for Christmas which means I have been practicing the art of bonsai for approx 168 hours, 34 minutes and 15 seconds. :)
That being said, I am by no means experienced. But regardless I got a tree and I knew I needed some good tools to take care of it. Now I know I'm not going to give it a trim yet, it will take some time but I wanted to be prepared so I ordered this set not knowing what to expect other then what I read in these reviews.
The tools arrived in a white box, each tool is packaged separately so in theory if you didn't want them all you could order the set then sell the pieces you don't need.
Each tool is crafted out of metal and it feels like it's got good quality behind it. I did snip a small piece from my tree just to test the sharpness of the scissors and it was an extremely clean cut the way it should be as to not damage the tree. If there is one thing I can say it's these are very sharp!
The one thing that concerned me was an excess of oil around the bolts on the scissors, it wasn't dripping but I could see where the oil was applied. It's not a problem but has the potential to be messy should you lay it on a table cloth.
Overall the tools really seem like a great deal once I received them. For the money you get 10 tools. I looked at just ordering the 3 pieces I thought I would really need and the total was about what I paid for all 10 pieces! Great value, I would have liked to see some angle tweezers in the pack but I'll get those elsewhere. Everything else I am very happy with and look forward to really being able to use them.

I guess for $5.00 a piece, I cannot complain too loudly. The biggest pair of prunners is very hard to use. The next tools I buy will be done in person. Thank you, Carol
