The Spetsnaz were the Soviet army's most elite unit, renowned for their deadly efficiency. Trained to travel light, the Spetsnaz packed only the bare essentials. This included a unique shovel which had a broad flat blade and 3 sharp versatile edges. Cold Steel's shovel follows the Soviet design as faithfully as possible with newer improvements in the steel (twice as thick as the original) and heat treatment. I have yet to use the shovel as a shovel, but it has worked well for splitting logs and resting by the front door in case a protecting device is needed.

I am really happy with the shovel but not the shipper. Two of the three showed up with damaged handles to the point that they need to be replaced to avoid splinters while using them. Needless to say I called the company who shipped the product and was told that I would have to pay to ship them back to have them ship me new ones. Needless to say the shipping cost will about pay for the new handles so why would I ever do it?! (Obviously what they were counting on)
The one shovel that arrived in good shape however is awesome!!!! it will do everything they show on cold steel's website. And will be a great addition to by bug out bag!!!!

Unlike previous military shoves that were heavy duty, this one is more like a beach toy. I could do some serious digging with my old one but this one want to bend under some conditions.I'd hate to have to depend on this in an emergency.

I couldn't be happier with this shovel. It's perfect, and balanced like a dream. The day I got it, on the first throw I sunk it straight and solid into a log in a woodpile from 20 feet away. Lucky, sure...but I'll take it :)
