1 out of 5 stars DON'T ORDER THIS PRODUCT FROM ANT ONLINE BUYER BEWARE   January 5, 2010

I ordered this shovel from Amazon via a seller by the name of Ant Online. I'm sure this shovel is a great product, however Ant Online sent me a tomahawk instead, completely the wrong product I ordered. Ant Online had no contact information whatsoever on the packing slip so I had to look up their contact information online. I then discovered how many horrible experiences buyers had from Ant Online trying to return items.

I tried to contact Ant Online by email and telephone and got no where just automated machines. They have automated email and telephones with no one to help you with a RMA # so you can't return items. The only way I found to get anywhere was to formally reject acceptance of the item per the Uniform Commercial Code as a non-conforming product, by mail and protest the charge on my credit card. Then I ordered this product from another seller who delivered the shovel I purchased. This is my first experience like this with Amazon where the product was completely non-conforming and the seller treating people this way with absolutely no customer service. I hope Amazon drops companies like this one that drop ship their products for sale. I'm surprised Amazon allows this company to continue to sell products on Amazon. Amazon should ban them from selling products on their site. I also found a website setup by other customers like myself that advertises to the general public to stay away from Ant Onine.

Update I got this shovel from from another seller GizmosForLife who delivered this product timely and this shovel is awesome. It is one of those amazing, rugged, simple tools the Russians are famous for designing for their soldiers for battle to dig in. The shovel is made by the Cold Steel company, who used high quality steel and copied the Russian design. This is the ak-47 of shovels. It is a small shovel with knife sharp edges, which can be used as a weapon in a close combat situation. I got it for a little survival tool and gardening tool. Excellently balanced for throwing. If you actually break the handle, the handle can be easily replaced by loosing the two screws that hold it place. You should buy the sheath holder for this shovel also otherwise the shovel may seriously damage whatever it rubs up against. The edges are very very sharp and will cut right through anything. By the way amazon helped with the credit card refund process after one telephone call and one email. Nice customer service from Amazon. So I ended up getting a free tomahawk lol.

5 out of 5 stars the most imposing garden tool i've ever seen   October 29, 2009

I won't even try to list all the things you could do with this, but it is a lot; some of the other reviews go into it, so I won't. As a tool and as a weapon, this thing is unbelievably versatile, I see it as a must have in any bug out bag.

5 out of 5 stars If I only had 9 lives...   October 18, 2009

Very solid shovel/chopper for the money. Great for both digging and trimming small limbs, though the "scooping" function is somewhat limited by the nearly flat design. Swings nice, making one ponder its advertised use as weapon - if I had 9 lives I'd be willing to risk one of them (with this tool in hand) on a one-on-one battle with a mountain lion - but since I don't, I think I'll stick to my 12-gauge.

5 out of 5 stars Sturdy. Capable. Slippery.   July 15, 2009

This is a very solid shovel.

Depending on need, you might want to sharpen the edges a bit. The only other mod I'd suggest is to put friction tape on the handle, because of the varnish.

Out of the box, this is a beautiful bit of kit. A couple of small customizations make it perfect.

It's really well done.

5 out of 5 stars Sturdy, versatile, and relatively compact   July 13, 2009

Special Forces Shovel, Hardwood Handle (92SF) Category: Miscellaneous Knives Great tool! I'm a gadget guy who appreciates practical versatility and durability. This fits the criteria very well. Very sturdy. Not just a shovel. I have used it sucessfully as a hatchet, a dirt shovel, and dug my truck out of a dense snow drift up past the axles. I've also used it to move hot coals for dutch oven cooking. The wooden handle is strong and feels good in my hand. The little bulb on the end of the handle helps keep it from slipping out of your hand when chopping, and makes pushing into the dirt easier. It does not fold 90 degrees into a pick configuration for digging into real hard soil like caliche, like the current GI shovel (whose triangular handle makes hacking and picking awkward and difficult) but with enough weight on it like a regular shovel, or with strong, sharp downward thrusts, the point will get through the tough dirt. The handle is shorter than the WWII style GI shovel, and makes it feel more balanced for multiple uses, yet still long enough for use as a regular shovel. Certaily more versatile than either style GI entrenching tool, and feels better in your hand. The flat design makes it easy to store. I keep one in my truck and another in my camp box. I've read stories of little shovels similar to this one being used successfully as weapons during the trench warfare of WWI. I havent needed it as a weapon myself, but it does swing well, and I'm sure it would do quite well as such, and is one reason I keep it handy.
