This Florian Ratchet Lopper was cheaper than through Florian's catalog. It arrived very promptly and was exactly what we ordered. Excellent service. This is an expensive but excellent trimmer and limb cutter. The ratcheting feature takes all the sweat out of trimming.

4 out of 5 stars ratchet-Up & usableness...   September 9, 2008

The use of a wooden handle is suspect to wrist injury or sprain. While the ratcheting that is similar in size to the metal ratchet of the first-Two: owned, I would twist those and make cracks that I would braze-Weld--stronger. The originals would lop over 3.5 inches of soft and 3-inches of hard green-Growth material, but only 2-inches of dense-Dry manzanita. I believe that they were double action. This may not be in the 2RC Florian, altho the shortness of handle @ 16-inches or 18 is deceptive to the leverage.

I next purchased the telescope-Lopper from Orchard Hardware (CA) which has an aluminum tube handles, w slot-Positions for extending--it's held strong. The need was because the expense of replacing the first two @ cost was $140. Now, the Florian has a wooden handle--cost is excessive, unless the steel is carbon steel, but the wood may twist and break. I would yet pay $95for a single, metal, extend-Handle, but the cut would have to be 3-inches. Ratcheting saves time, energy and wrist. The cost may be too prohibitive, whether or not the sharpness can be maintained? Otherwise ...others, such as Craftsman 71-83550 28-Inch Telescoping Ratchet Bypass Lopper are nice for 1.25-inches, and the extendable aluminum makes hand-Grips an amenity of use-Familiarity, best?

I cut poison-Oak vines and other wild vines, and heavy-Growth bushes,so the 6-slot w double-Jaw is best for double-Width precision--does the 2RC Florian have this capacity? I Feel after decades of forest: camp-Style that culling w this tool would get my mark, if the complement was available, however. Also, I must know in advance the type of garden/wilds, so as to "not" over-cut, too!
