My wife and I have used this heater over a two year period in our Vanagon Westfalia.
The heater is troublesome in that it goes out frequently, sometimes because of the slightest movement of air. At other times it seems to go out because the propane cannister is nearly, but not entirely, depleted. At still other times the heater goes out for no discoverable reason.
These symptoms occur whether we use the heater with disposable cannisters or with a 1 gallon refillable tank. (We use a filter with the refillable tank, but that has not helped.)
We avoid the use of disposable cannisters because they are much more expensive to use than a refillable tank ($4 for 1 pound vs. about $3.50 for about 5 pounds) and because we don't consider the disposable cannisters to be environmentally friendly. Disposable cannisters are also difficult to dispose of properly.
Perhaps our heater is defective?
All this said, we consider the heater safe to use and, importantly to us, it is very quiet. It produces enough heat for us with the pop top raised when the ambient outdoor temperature is 32 degrees.
