boater4life October 20, 2008 Boater4Life (Southern California) I purchased this grill for my boat based on reviews that said it was really good quality. WRONG! It was everything but that. Upon opening the box, the wire formed lid locks were rolling around in the plastic bag it came in. Many of the parts, like the adjustable feet, were just carbon steel off the shelf home improvement store items. When I got out the magnet out to check the stainless steel quality, I realized that the entire grill was made of cheap automotive stainless and would rust quickly. Construction was poor also and typical of Chinese products with sharp edges and bad fitting components. I returned the grill before using it for one actually made of high quality stainless. I thought the price was too good to be true...and it was.

After doing a fair amount of research online, I decided to take a chance on this unfamiliar manufacturer's little grill. Compared to the others, everything appeared similar except price--this thing goes for much, much less than the competitors. Having owned it for a while now, here's what I've found: 1) the build quality is excellent, very sturdy with nice fit and finish; 2) the burner is HOT, even on low . . . but; 3) the burner is on the small side, so you've got some grilltop area available for both direct and indirect heat; 4) I've had some difficulties keeping the thing lit in breezy conditions--its vent design is perhaps a little too effective. I just angle it away from the wind or shield it with a cooler; 5) the screw-in regulator seems a bit chintzy. Mine has frozen up, as the manual says it might with a new gas cylinder. But mine did it a couple times with previously-used cylinders. A caveat: infrared isn't for everyone or for every application. There's a definite hot spot, and on a portable grill, that spot is not particularly large (think "small grill, small food.") For the burgers, filets, and dogs I typically do, it works great. I've done a pork loin with great results and found that there's plenty of heat to saute onions in a heavy pan. I've not tried steaks or fish. Overall, a couple niggling issues, but in the end I really like this grill. The build quality is impressive, the infrared burner is both hot and self-cleaning, and it comes with a very cool carry bag. Definitely recommended.
