Aficionados of Polynesian culture will remember that tikis are humanoid talismans which are strategically placed by denizens of the South Pacific isles to mark and protect their many sacred sites. They're also brilliant conversation starters when you've tottered over to the Premium Tiki Bar Island for another round of high octane Mai Tai's or the always delightful Missionary's Downfall. Those of you who "go native" or demand absolute historical accuracy in a tiki bar reproduction may want to steer clear of this island, but many of us are happy to call it home. As Thoreau said, "Fools stand on their island opportunities and look toward another land."
The Tiki Bar Island's craftsmanship and construction is superb, but insufficient to prevent me from developing a system of disassembly and reassembly. In the off season, it takes up residence in the master bedroom, where my wife and I enjoy roleplaying Gilligan's Island. Being a huge Jim Backus fan, I typically play the part of the decidedly randy Thurston J. Howell III. After 3 or 4 Papaya Drivers, my wife looks smashing in the red shirt and white bucket hat.
