Great product, well worth the price. August 25, 2010 Hamilton We used this product all summer and we haven't lost a single garden plant in it's range to rabbits, deer, or other critters that frequent our yard at night. Before we installed the Scarecrow, we simply couldn't plant herbs or various types of flowering plants around our patio due to the critters. The plants wouldn't last a week. Sprays, etc. weren't effective and required constant reapplication and we don't use poisons.
Easy to setup if you have a hose connection close (I recommend the double valve as well). It is a great training device for these critters as once they learn to be wary of this area they stay away even when you forget to turn on the Scarecrow. I'm planning to use it to discourage deer from walking through our yard before winter. Not cheap for a plastic sprayer, but it turned out to be worth every penny.
Garden Protection August 17, 2010 Robert Mckee (Yosemite) The Havahart model 5265 motion sprinkler is fantastic for deer and critter control. It has acted as an alert sentinel and protected my roses and small vegetable garden for over two years now.I was so impressed with it's effectiveness I purchased an additional sprinkler a month ago. Sadly, it was a defective sprinkler that would not shut off, but Amazon was prompt to replace the sprinkler and pay the return shipping. Havahart and Amazon, they are a great team. Things happen so I am not marking the sprinkler down in my review.
The Havahart design is so much more visually appealing than the threatening Scarecrow manufactured by Contech. Surely they perform about the same, but for looks, I prefer the Havahart appearance. Even the company name is appealing and sounds very critter friendly, scare them away but don't hurt them, a good philosophy.
I am one of Havahart's best customer salespeople, I am forever telling the story of how the motion sprinkler saved my precious vegetable garden and strawberries from the marauding deer. Granted there are a few very smart deer out there that get a few strawberry plants, but the motion sprinkler scares most of the deer away, I have seen it in action out my office window. The feedback is gratifying and supports my decision on my purchase.
I only have one complaint, the motion sprinkler does not distinguish between humans and critters, many times I have been squirted fully in the face and back while tending to my garden.
All in all, I highly recommend the Havahart motion sprinkler, it is well worth the money.
Spray A gay Lotion-Activated Water Repellent August 13, 2010 Bartok Kinski (Prague) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Now when I think of a scarecrow, I have the image of a hooded man in blue jeans with a dirty shirt. Not this stupid thing. It's a piece of metal arm that doesn't look like it could frighten a tin man. So right out of the box I wasn't too impressed.
I put Coyote urine in the liquid container instead of water since water doesn't scare thirsty animals away. It's supposed to "spray off" anything nearby but it only hit me when I went to check it.
After a few months of use, I found my garden pillaged by rodents, beetles, birds, buzzards, rabbits, and pestilent frogs. Take my advice, build yourself a chicken farm instead.
Rabbits Anyone? July 17, 2010 nuget 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
I thought The Havahart 5265 Spray Away would be the answer to keeping the rabbits off my lawn. Not so. I have adjusted it;moved it to several different locations; changed the sensitivities and No Luck with keeping those rabbits away.
I purchased two of these. One for each side of the house.
I believe the problem is that the rabbits are too small and close to the ground so they don't trigger the motion detector. This product will probably work on larger animals that don't go "Under the Radar"
If you are purchasing this product specificallyHavahart 5265 Spray Away Motion-Activated Water Repellent for rabbits, it won't work.
Happy wife. July 9, 2010 George 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
The spray away motion activated water repellent works. It deters the deer in our area from eating flowers and garden plants.
My wife could not plant any to her favorite flowers and vegetables without the deer eating them at night. Since we started using the spray away her flowers and garden plants are flourishing. She is one happy woman.
