Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Proper pH control is important to allow all plant nutrients to be available in nutrient solution. Having nutrient solutions that are too high (basic) or too low (acidic) can lead to nutrient deficiencies or toxicities, depending on the element. GH's pH Control Kit provides not only a pH indicator, but also pH controls (pH Up & pH Down) in 8 oz. bottles. Used to measure water pH.

5 out of 5 stars ph balancing kit   February 24, 2010

I've only used this product a few times but I already have better control on the ph of the water i use on my plants! It's doing exactly what I needed it to do! very happy! This is a great starter kit...it has the tools you need and it's a great price.

2 out of 5 stars Dont know about these   February 6, 2010

not a very accurate PH testing kit because the test vial they give you is very small and if your water is under the ph that you want, if you add just one drop of the PH UP solution it will jump about 5 points in PH. The color system is inaccurate as well because it's hard to tell the difference between 2-3 PH. 6, 7, 8 and 9 PH all look relatively the same and its hard to dial down to a certain PH. i would send these back if i could and just buy a digital PH reading pen

5 out of 5 stars Just what you need if you don't have a meter   January 28, 2010

I bought this pH test kit instead of a digital pH meter. A good digital pH meter is fairly expensive and a cheap meter could have questionable accuracy. Plus, I have had experience using digital pH meters at work a few years ago, and they are just hard to deal with, not as far as using them, they are easy to use to test the pH of something, but they can easily fall out of tolerance and need to be calibrated, you don't necessarily know when the reading is off and it needs to be calibrated, as in the pH measurements you've been getting were wrong for a while and you didn't know it, the probes have to be kept wet or not depending on the model of meter, not to mention they are a sensitive electronic device and you have to just be careful with them.

So therefore, I got this pH test kit and it works great. Sure, it's a regular test kit and doesn't give you the absolute exact pH like a meter would, but if you need the pH of something to be in a particular range, as in water or nutrient solution for plants, this will certainly do the trick.

But I have to say that whatever you test probably needs to be clear or close to it, since you fill a vial half full and then put 3 to 5 drops of pH testing solution to observe the resulting color change to get the pH. In other words, I'm thinking you may not be able to test the pH of Kool Aid or tea or something, but water or water mixed with plant nutrients where the color is only slightly changed would be fine.

5 out of 5 stars good stuff   September 17, 2009

Works very well in controlling ph levels in soil and hydro setups. The color chart and indicator solution are very easy to work with. Takes me an extra 1 minute or less to adjust ph of nute solution. Good stuff. Consider the soluble powder version of the up and down if you want it to last longer. Also you get more for less shipping

I've used it one time and it was very effective. Since purchasing this kit I've read a book on beginning hydroponics--apparently you can use vinegar to lower the PH and baking soda to raise it it you don't want to spend the money on this kit.
